An independent look at what the district's own documents say about Props A–E, and why this site recommends voting NO on all five.

The five propositions

Key reasons

These are this site's opinions, based on the district's documents.

  1. Voting yes on Prop A costs the median-valued homestead about $117 a year more than voting no. The ballot says "THIS IS A TAX INCREASE" and an additional $9,142,763 in maintenance and operations revenue. The district's own audit says about $4 million of that would remain in McKinney ISD after recapture in the first year. The district's own filings put the total rate at $1.0347 per $100 if Prop A fails and $1.0664 if it passes: 3.17 cents higher. On the district's median-valued homestead of $368,036 (a taxable value), that is about $117 a year. The district's mailer and tax rate page compare the rate with last year's $1.1043, and as those pages read on October 5, 2026, neither stated the total if Prop A fails.
  2. Props B–E would authorize $500,000,000 in new bonds. With the district's estimated interest of $130,534,474, the estimated total is $630,534,474. That is on top of $338,220,000 in existing bond principal and $89,536,726 in existing interest.
  3. About $60.0 million of the 2021 bond program was still unspent and uncommitted. The district's August 2026 bond report shows $59,991,427 remaining, including $7.5 million each for the Minshew and Wilmeth refresh projects (nothing spent) and a $14.5 million maintenance building with $181,505 spent.
  4. The district closed three elementary schools, and Prop B would pay for two new ones. On November 5, 2025, the board voted 7–0 to repurpose C.T. Eddins, Arthur H. McNeil, and Earl & Lottie Wolford elementary schools for alternative district operational uses, effective 2026–2027. The buildings no longer serve as elementary schools. The district's election pages call this closing and say it saves $3 million a year. Prop B includes two new elementary schools in another area of the district.
  5. The mailer says "lower tax rate." The ballot says "tax increase." The mailer's front reads "With a Lower Tax Rate!" The ballot heading on each of Props B–E reads "THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE," wording the district's FAQ says state law requires on every school bond proposition. The total rate adopted for 2026–27 is $1.0664 per $100, down from $1.1043 per $100 last year. The total rate is going down, but the tax resolution the board adopted states that the rate will raise more taxes for maintenance and operations than last year's rate, and the ballot puts that increase at $9,142,763.
  6. A "$0" estimate is not a promise, and the example home is not a typical home. For each bond proposition, the district's voter information document estimates a $0 maximum annual increase in taxes on a homestead with a taxable appraised value of $100,000 (net of the $140,000 exemption). That is about 27% of the $368,036 median-valued homestead the district uses in its own tax filings, and it measures only the change in a bill, not the bill. The estimate also presumes taxable values grow 2.75% in 2027 and 2.50% a year for 2028–2032. The election order says its 5% interest rate and 20-year repayment period are only estimates that "do not serve as a cap," and the taxes to repay the bonds are "sufficient, without limit as to rate or amount." In this site's opinion, an estimate for a home valued far below the median, resting on assumptions, is not a promise to the homeowners who will pay.
